Final for Java Vino Coffee and Wine House- Menu Redesign

Java Vino's current menu can be seen at www.javavino.com. Then you would need to click on menu. This is their exact menu that they have in their coffee shop. I felt it reallly needs some redesigning as it is just a list of food and drink items they offer. Here is my version of Java Vino's menu. I stuck with the same color scheme but really focused on a way to make sure their menu is more organized and easily read.

Advertisements for Java Vino

Here are the ads I came up with for Java Vino. The tagline I came up with is Wake Up or Wind Down. I decided to use this tagline for both ads but change the secondary tagline on each ad. This first ad reads Wake Up or Wind Down. Early morning or late night, we've got you covered. I wanted to gear more towards the coffee aspects in one ad and then towards wine in the other. The second ad reads Wake UP or Wind Down. A night without wine is like a day without coffee. All photographs were taken by me.

Self Mailer for JavaVino-Inside

Self mailer inside. Right flap is the White wine list and the left flap is the red wine list. The top flap displays the company logo along with address, phone number and website information. The bottom flap is perforated so that the free dessert coupon is easily detachable.

Self Mailer for JavaVino-Outside

Here is the outside of the self mailer unfolded. The brown box is only to represent where a label may be placed. The label may be white, or clear etc.

Self Mailer for JavaVino

For those who are not familiar with the term self mailer, a self mailer is sent in the mail but is designed so that it does not need an envelope. Self mailers may promote a specific event or advertise for their company in general.

I decided to promote a wine tasting event for JavaVino. The piece is an even square in the middle and the flaps fold so that they lock in place. I wanted to keep the same elements in this piece that I used in the stationary. Simple and Elegant. To ensure that people attend and arrive on time, I thought it would be a great idea to include a coupon that would give away a free dessert between 8pm and 9pm since the event starts at 8pm. I also included the red wine list along with the white wine list that would be included in the wine tasting event.

Some of the best ads ever!

These are ads that I think are great in concept and graphic design.

  • Here we have an ad for Rubiks Cube. This game/strategic puzzle has been around for years. It is know for being quite difficult to solve. This ad dimenstrates the addiction that people sometims get tryin to solve the rubik's cube. It goes even further to demonstrate this by showing that the guy only has one more square he needs to figure out and at the bottom it says "25 years and still going." The ad is funny and to the point.

Once again we have an ad that is simple and to the point but humorous all at once. We have a truck driver who is delivering bananas and a monkey (who we all know loves bananas) bribing the truck driver with a can of Pepsi.

This is an advertisment about News casting. The camera man uses the woman as his camera. She is in her gown and slippers with rollers in her hair. She represents the typical person in their home who is watching the news. This ad demonstrates how this particular news channel brings the latest news or stories to you as if you are there as the news is happening. Short, sweet, to the point and once again funny!

Stationery: Java Vino Business Cards

Here are some of the business card ideas I thought about. I experimented with shapes and decided on a warm gold/yellow color to compliment the logo.

Finally...the logo I chose for Java Vino.

Here's the logo and colors I chose for the coffee and wine house, Java Vino! Tell me what you think. I would love the feedback.

Variations of the 2 logos

Here, I have come up with many different variations of the two logos I would like to work with. They vary in style and color. The colored squares are just color schemes I was exploring.

Narrowed down to 2 logo choices.

I have narrowed down my logo to 2 logo choices. These are the two logos sketches that will be scanned onto the computer and be tweaked even further. More options shall be explored with these logos!

Happy Sketching!

Here, I have about 40 - 50 thumbnail(2x2in) sketches of ideas I have for the Java Vino logo. This helped me explore all of my ideas and see them side by side so that I could narrow down my ideas. I would say this is a part of the brain storming process! Happy Sketching!

Mood Board

So, I took a look at a few logos to get ideas for my own logo design.

A Little More Research on JavaVino

Who are your company choices (2-3)?

JavaVino | Oz Pizza | Honey Spa

What do they do?

I chose to JavaVino. JavaVino is a coffee and wine house located in Atlanta on N. Highland Ave. JavaVino breaks down as Java "coffee" and Vino "wine.” They offer a variety of coffee and wine from around the world. JavaVino also offers a full menu of breakfast items, sandwiches, soups, salads, cheese plates and a delicious collection of desserts.

C. Who is their main competition?

Their main competition would be other coffee shops of course. Because JavaVino offers a full menu, not only other coffee shops would be their competition but restaurants in the surrounding areas would also be competition.

D. What strengths do they have as a brand and as a company?

What other shops have you heard of that offers coffee and wine? The coffee shop is already set a part from all the others. Their location is great as well. They are located within a neighborhood where many of their same customers will pass by every day. Upon visiting JavaVino I learned that this is not only a coffee shop but a place where customers can enjoy coffee, wine, food while studying or browsing the internet. The atmosphere created within the shop is very warm and welcoming which creates a great meeting spot for locals.

E. In what areas do they need improvement?

JavaVino needs to promote the meaning of their shop. The meaning of JavaVino needs to be incorporated into their logo. By incorporating the meaning behind the business, they would in turn be showing or telling potential customers their uniqueness. They need what I like to call an “attention getter.”

F. List five buzzwords that describe the brand as it is, and then five words to describe the brand as you wish to redesign it.

As is…

Plain

Simple

Warm

Different

Typical

As I wish…

Cozy

Unique

Stylish

Simple

Fun

G. Who is their target audience?

Their audience would be anyone who drinks coffee or wine so I’d say a age group 18+. Their main target audience would probably be people living in the highland neighborhood, and college students.

Good Logo Design

Here we have some pretty decent designs. I love the use of negative space in the Ed's Electrics logo and in the Gucci logo. Ardyss International is a company in the wellness and help industry. I feel the illustration works for the company but I would have liked to see something more interesting done with the type.

Bad Logo Design

Here are some logo designs that I feel are horrible and there was no thought put into these designs. Ever heard of thinking with type?? Type is really important!

Since when do we offer Kids sex changes?? right! Kids Exchange perhaps? Mega what??

Lesson 1: You always want to be sure you are actually advertising what your product is.

Amazingly Excited

I plan to use this blog for my intermediate Graphic Design course. I will be posting designs both of which I do and ones I like. I hope to get feedback from others as well. Enjoy!
